Wait, what is Part 107? Part 107 refers to the FAA certification required for commercial drone pilots in the United States. This certification ensures that pilots understand airspace rules, safety regulations, and legal requirements for flying drones professionally.
It’s illegal to hire drone operators who are not Part 107 certified. Not only can uncertified pilots face fines, but those who hire them can also be penalized. Simply put, if a drone pilot is getting paid for their work, they must be Part 107 certified.

How did Wild Skies Media get its name and logo?
I was flying a drone on a cold winter day in Chattanooga, TN, in an area known to be home to a family of five red-tailed hawks. I had flown there many times without any issues, until this particular day.
Out of nowhere, one of the hawks launched a sudden, aggressive attack on my drone, likely defending its territory. The impact was powerful enough to temporarily knock out the drone’s power and camera systems for about 20 seconds. Fortunately, it fell on a nearby deck, rebooted itself, and flew away without a scratch.
The footage it captured during the attack offered an intense, up-close look at what it’s like to be targeted by a hawk. When I later needed a name and logo for the drone business I was starting, I thought back to that wild moment, and Wild Skies Media was born.
